A 1982 Metallic Red Gibson Les Paul Standard with Gold Hardware

1982 Gibson Les Paul Standard.

This 12 3/4-inch-wide 'custom color' Les Paul Standard weighs 9.70 lbs. Single-bound, just under 2 inches deep, solid mahogany body with a carved maple top. One-piece mahogany neck with a nut width of 1 11/16 inches, a standard Gibson scale length of 24 3/4 inches and a very comfortable medium profile. Rosewood fretboard with 22 original jumbo frets and inlaid pearl trapezoid position markers. Headstock with inlaid pearl "Gibson" logo and "Les Paul Model" silk-screened in gold. "Standard" on Bell-shaped, black over white plastic truss-rod cover with "Standard' etched in white, secured by two screws. The original tuners have been replaced with individual Gibson 'Schaller' M6 tuners with tulip shaped metal buttons. Serial number "80412608" and "Made in U.S.A." stamped on the back of the headstock. The original Gibson 490R neck pickup has been replaced with a '57 Classic Humbucker with an output of 7.77k. The bridge pickup is the original Gibson 490R humbucker with "Gibson / USA" engraved on the underside and has an output of 7.75k. Cream plastic pickup surrounds with "MR 492 / M-69 5" and "MR 493 / M-69 6" stamped on the underside. Cream plastic pickguard. Four controls (two volume, two tone) on lower treble bout plus three-way selector switch on upper bass bout. The potentiometers are al stamped "137 8135" (CTS September 1981). Gold plastic bell-shaped control knobs. Gotoh Nashville style Tune-O-Matic bridge and separate stud tailpiece. All hardware gold-plated. The 'Solid Metallic Red' color which is very similar to Fender's 'Candy Apple Red' is bright and unfaded. There are some light belt-buckle indentations on the back and a few small surface chips (mainly on the body edge) and there is some minimal playing wear to the first few frets. Taking the changes/upgrades into account this great sounding and great playing Metallic Red Gibson Les Paul is in excellent plus (8.75) condition. Housed in the original Gibson five-latch, shaped brown hardshell case with maroon plush lining (8.75)

"By overwhelmingly popular demand, the humbucking-equipped Standard was officially reintroduced in late 1975. It retained the previous lightly-domed arched top, wide cutaway binding, and cross-banded body. They were avaiable in gold, natural, wine red, ebony, and cherry and dark sunbursts. Production was slow at first, nut by 1977 the pace picked up and sales were brisk. The original two-piece body was reinstated during 1978 while three-piece maple necks with volutes, wide headstocks, and eight-digit stamped serial numbers continued through the eighties… In the early eighties the dreaded volute disappeared, the headstock was made smaller and 'Limited editions' in new vivid colors were released - some with gold parts. In the early eighties Gibson began to move away from some of the production quirks it had brought in during the 1970s.
