1985 Mosrite Special Custom Double-Neck Six String + Octave Guitar.

 

This 'Mosrite Special' double-neck (conventional six-string neck in the lower position combined with an octave six-string neck in the upper position) weighs 13.80 lbs. This guitar was specially made by Semie Moseley for Paul McElyea in 1985 and is inscribed by him on the back of the back of the standard headstock. The regular six-string neck has a nut width of 1 3/4 inches, a medium profile and a scale length of 24 3/4 inches; the octave six-string neck has a nut width of just under 1 3/4 inches, a medium profile and a scale length of 14 inches. Five-piece flamed maple and quilted maple body with scalloped edge (16 inches wide and 2 1/2 inches deep) with four walnut center-strips. The body has five-ply binding on the top and back and both of the headstocks are triple bound. Two five-piece flamed maple and walnut necks, both with  single bound slab-rosewood fretboards. The conventional guitar has a brass nut, a zero fret + 22 original medium 'speed' frets, small inlaid single, double & triple brass dot position markers and a white headstock decal "M Mosrite". The octave guitar has a brass nut, zero fret + 19 original medium 'speed' frets and small inlaid double & triple brass dot position markers and a white headstock decal "MOSRITE / SPECIAL". Both necks with unique Mosrite 'M' shaped headstocks with individual Grover Imperial tuners with 'stair-step' shaped metal buttons. Three Mosrite single coil pickups with white plastic covers with "Mosrite of California" embossed on the lower edge, white plastic surrounds, and outputs of 11.90k & 12.37k on the regular guitar and 11.76k on the octave guitar. Specific hand-carved 3/4 inch thick quilted maple pickguard with three-ply white/black/white edging. secured by three bolts and two screws. Two controls (one volume and one tone) plus one three-way pickup selector switch and one three-way neck selector switch - all mounted on the pickguard. Mosrite 'V' & 'T' chrome-plated 'hat type' control knobs with "M" stamped on top, numbered from 0 to 5. Side jack input with three-layer white/black/white plastic mounting plate secured by two screws. The six-string guitar with original Mosrite bridge with six individually adjustable saddles and chrome-plated die-cast Mosely type vibrato/tailpiece unit. The octave guitar with original Mosrite bridge with six individually adjustable saddles and Moseley die-cast stop tailpiece secured by two screws. Beneath the octave guitar tailpiece is a decorative 'kidney-shaped' five-layer black over white plastic panel secured by two screws. On the back of the six string guitar headstock written in pencil is: "Custom Made for Paul McElyea / By Semie Moseley". On the inside of the carved-out back, written in red pencil is "Custom Built / for Paul McElyea / by Semie Moseley / 1985 / #429-14-7726-A-". "This incredibly beautiful three-tone sunburst instrument is in near mint (9.25) condition with just a very small half-inch piece of the headstock binding missing on the conventional neck. Housed in the original three-latch rectangular black hardshell case with black leather ends and brown plush lining (9.00).
